Following Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, students' protest on Monday, January 22, 14 students have been arrested for allegedly destroying school properties. The students, 13 of whom are male and one female were arrested by Police in Ondo State and remanded in prison The suspected students who were later paraded at the Chief Magistrate Court -II sitting at the GRA in the state were charged with a three-count charge of conspiracy, felony to wit stealing and malicious damage. Rufus Giwa Polytechnic shut down after protesting students destroyed school properties play Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo students protesting over fee hike in 2016 (Punch) The Police gave the 14 students' names as; Lukman Arowolo 21, Iyanuoluwa Gift 21, Olayinka Oyewole 21, Aladejebi Temitope 35, Oluwadare Gbenga 26, Japhet Samuel 21, Ayeni Samuel 24, Lawrence Monday 2 4,Titus Felix 22, Emmanuel Segun 23, Ayeni Temitope 21, Ayeni Trust 23, Olayinka Olalekan 17, and Ayomide Opeyemi 21.



During the protest, the students were said to have stormed Akure/Benin expressway, preventing vehicular movement for over an hour. Recall that the students' protest broke out following the Polytechnic's management decision to prevent students who are yet to pay their school fees from writing their second-semester examination.
